...beauty is a dynamic event that occurs between you and something else.
Beauty can spontaneously occur at any moment given the proper circumstances, context, or point of view. Beauty is thus an altered state of consciousness, an extraordinary moment of poetry and grace.

12:14 am - Fur. An imaginary portrait of Diane Arbus.

Despite of my preconditioned critical attitude towards this movie, I really liked it. Once I got over of the fact that it's not a straight biography of DA, I just let it go and enjoyed Alice in Wonderland like (featuring a white bunny rabbit) imaginative, beautiful story. Now I don't understand why anybody would think that this movie is an insult to Diane Arbus and her work. Why? To me it perfectly captures the fascination of an artist by it's subject. It shows that rare drive which comes straight from one's heart and manages to live for years. It is beautiful and hunting. It's one of the love stories that raises it's genre to a completely different degree.
It is no surprise to me that the movie came up in a conversation after my mentioning of Pan's Labyrinth (marvelous, amazingly beautiful, yet violent movie).

11:33 pm - about birds

There is a Blue Bird hanging out in my backyard in the past 3 days. I've seen it braking pieces of a dead vine, picking up some dry grass and chunks of coconut fiber from my fancy window box. All three of us (J., K. and myself) tried to sneak on the bird to figure out where the nest is. My cats are going nuts watching, making chirping sounds and moving their tails aggressively seeing the bird so close. The nest appears to be high up on a birch tree in my neighbor's yard. So exciting to wait for a new generation of these jumpy bright blue birds. (Thank you Maeterlinck!)

Last weekend I had a privilege of meeting wild parrots of San Francisco in a different spot (I've seen them at SFAI before). My camera's battery died. I have to say that I really like when it happens. Since it's a rare treat, I go for "it's time to be here, not to take pictures". Five minutes later, after Jim (the sweetest person I met in months) gave me some sunflower seeds, parrots were all over me. I had one on my head, two on my shoulder, two on one hand and three on another. Now, I know birds, I had a bunch of them when I was a kid, so I asked them quietly: "Please don't poop on me, I had a really bad day, no poop on my head, ok?" Parrots were chatty and noisy, but had good manners (not counting the one who bit my finger and made it bleed). At some point I realized that became a tourist attraction and, to my big surprise, discovered at least 5 cameras were pointed at me, just because I was so perfect in my role of a tree for parrots to climb, gathering sunflower seeds along the way.
